Lionel Messi netted a hat-trick as Barcelona ran out 4-2 winners against Deportivo La Coruna to secure the club’s 25th La Liga title.
In a disastrous defence of their La Liga crown, Real Madrid’s season rests on chasing a third consecutive Champions League trophy.
Real Madrid host Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semi-final tomorrow evening with Los Blancos holding a 2-1 lead.
And with Cristiano Ronaldo and Co fully focused on their European tie, Spanish publication Diario Gol claims Ronaldo hasn’t given a second thought to Barca’s title trim.
Messi’s hat-trick also took him back on top spot in the race for the European Golden Boot, while he is also set to win the Pichichi trophy.
But the view from Ronaldo’s camp is said to be European success beats any individual award or La Liga title.
Ronaldo feels the real way to prove yourself to the world is by winning Europe’s elite competition.
Real Madrid will create history if they win the Champions League, becoming the first team to win three titles in a row.
And Diario Gol say that is the motivation driving Ronaldo to ensure he rewrites the history books once again and propel him towards a record sixth Ballon d’Or.
With Messi winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Pichichi and likely the Golden Boot, Ronaldo needs to win the Champiosn League to stand any chance of being crowned the world’s best footballer for 2018.
If he does, the result of the Ballon d’Or could come down to who triumphs at the World Cup with their respective country.
Lionel Messi will finally be looking to win a World Cup with Argentina, while Ronaldo will be hoping to add to his Euro 2016 success with Portugal.
